supporting your animal through stress, trauma and recovery from injury, illness and disease

Is your animal

  • Nervous/Anxious

  • Can't relax
  • Reserved or withdrawn
  • Finding it hard to cope with its environment
  • Injured or sick
  • Having recurring illness or injuries
  • Struggling with convalescance or rehabilitation

Any of the above, are possible indicators of stress in your animal.  It is now medically accepted that negative states of mind can be the root cause of many illnesses and unwanted behaviours.

Mental, emotional and physical wellbeing

All animals can find certain situations difficult to cope with, leaving them feeling mentally, emotionally as well as physically out of balance.  Adapting to a new home, losing a companion or recovering  from an injury or illness are typical examples of when an animal will feel confused and often frightened.

Traumatic experiences from the past may leave painful memories that continue to influence them throughout their lives. Alternatively there could be something in the animal's immediate environment that  it finds disturbing and unable to deal with.

Different species

All species have their own priority of needs and what may be essential to one species may not be relevant in another.
However one thing is for sure, they are all attempting to adapt to the world we provide for them and some find it harder to cope than others.

Our responsibility to watch for signs of stress

We all want our animals  to be healthy and enjoy life.  As humans, we can make choices as to how we deal with the stresses and strains in our lives. However, this isn't so easy for animals and therefore it becomes our responsibility to  watch for the signs of stress and help them overcome it in the best way possible.

Injury, illness and disease

Some are happy and well balanced, life is generally good and there are few setbacks. However sometimes animals become sick or injuries occur.  This can leave the animal feeling vulnerable, confused and often fearful especially if they are in pain.  Bringing an animal through these difficult timess can be greatly enhanced if you can recognise the subtle signs of stress and work with it accordingly.

Complementary therapy when used during convalescence and rehabilitation can be extremely beneficial particularly when recovery is slow or the illness is re occurring.

How can Lindsy help you and your animal?

Drawing on her understanding of canine behavioural science  and the physiological responses to stress, Lindsy helps her clients understand the reasons why their animal is going through a difficult time.  From here, she offers advice on how to deal with this stress in a positive and compassionate way.

Although she is happy to consult as a behaviourist alone, Lindsy knows, through 20 years of experience, the benefit that healing has on the animals she works with.  Healing is known to support animals through times of stress and increases the recovery rate of sickness and injury.  You can see from the testimonials written by her clients that animals clearly gain from it.

Lindsy also teaches her clients additional relaxation techniques in particular, The Springer Technique, which she originally developed to help her own animals.  She now offers the basic relaxation technique to her clients so they can work with their animals at home, this is a simple and non invasive way of working and most animals love it

Contact

If you would like to discuss with Lindsy how she can make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of your animals, please feel free to contact her.  Every animal is different and she will take the time to discuss the possibilities helping you in whatever way she can.

Based in Cheshire Lindsy will see small animals at Cheshire Pet Medical Veterinary Practice unless she feels your animal would be better seen at home.  Lindsy will travel to see larger animals.
